Senior Portraits in a different light.

Senior year is a big deal. It’s usually the year before they turn 18 and wake-up as an adult in the eyes of the law. It’s the year they leave grade school behind and either dive deep in a job or continue their education towards something they’re passionate about. It’s the year of BIG decisions, big changes - not one bit of it should be taken lightly.

I like to have a lot of discussions before a senior portrait session and use that time to ask a lot of questions. Things like.. what is important to them? What are their plans after graduation? Do they plan any sports? What hobbies are they into? Each one of those questions coming with a purpose. I use these answers to help plan something custom for each child - I want the location to tell a story, I want props brought to add to that story, I want these photographs to resemble their personalities in the biggest way possible.

SENIOR PORTRAITS DON’T HAVE TO BE BORING! They shouldn’t be done in clothes they don’t feel comfortable in or in things they wouldn’t normally wear. I feel like it’s SO important that the kid shows up AS THEY ARE. I want their portrait session to reflect who they are at that very moment. I want them (and their families) to be able to look at them ten years down the road and have all the memories flood back to them like it was yesterday.

Some of the photos below were taken at DeVries Nature Conservancy, The VOA, The Armory, downtown East Lansing, MSU Campus, downtown Owosso or Fenton, at my Studio and many other locations.
